Hairdressing

Some days I like to listen to 70’s rock and wear band T-Shirts

I started in the Hair & Beauty industry in 2005 as a young apprentice, I immersed myself into the entire industry completing multiple Beautician certificates at a private beauty college as well as my trade certificate in Hairdressing.

From there I completed multiple courses for advanced colouring and cutting techniques, hair up styling and hair extension application.

I worked full time for many years and developed RSI in my left wrist meaning I could no longer cut hair full time. I took on managerial roles, trained apprentices & beauty therapists and worked for myself providing hair and make up services for wedding parties in the Great Southern.

I have worked in many busy salons and developed some very special friendships over the years.

After spending so long cooped up in shopping centres I began to crave the sun, I had always struggled with vitamin D deficiency and wanted to venture into the great outdoors more. This is where I turned my love of horses and training into my new career path.

Some days I love a good floral thrift dress and listening to Joni Mitchell

In 2016 I started my travelling which saw me head to the beautiful Kimberley region of Western Australia. I needed a career/lifestyle change for better health and the outback showed me a way of life that I didn’t know could exist for me. I have always been around horses and cattle and loved the farm life but station life was so much more than I had ever expected!

Over 10 years of wearing a full face of make up everyday and making sure my hair was perfect the station life finally allowed me relax and be myself.

I found a sense of home and I found myself up there in the solitude of endless plains, I learned to take care of myself and my health has never been better.

Since my first time up north I made the decision to create a work life that fit around my own lifestyle and didn’t impact my health in a negative way, I began working part time in the salon and I started working with horses professionally, it was a much better balance for me.

With the travel bug securely set in I set off to the USA the following year, Melbourne the next, back to the US but soon enough the Kimberley was calling.

I loved the outdoors so much that I left the hair and beauty industry and worked outside full time.

I didn’t miss the vanity of the industry, especially after working in a suburb outside of Melbourne, but I really did really miss my country clientele and the social side of the hair industry.

Some days I like to go full country

Today I wear little to no make up, I haven't coloured my own hair in years, I am very conscious about balance in my life and the products that I use and the food I consume; needless to say I am a much healthier and happier person and my wrists are strengthened with regular yoga practice.

I soon realised that my passion for the parts of the industry that I loved so much could be the main focus and it could be anything I wanted it to become if I worked for myself again.

The parts I missed dearly about the hair and beauty industry were the people who allow me into their lives, first as a professional and then as a friend, I love to help people see their own unique beauty and show them how easy it can be to have a style or routine that fits with the time/effort that they want to put in daily.

I love making people feel great and I love being there to celebrate life achievements or to offer a shoulder in the tough times.

I have now poured all of my core values, heart and soul into creating a vision for the future, something that I think is going to be very special. Bringing my passion for organic and low tox living into the heair industry.

I always love a fresh floral arrangement by our local florist Peppercorn Percy

I wanted to work for myself so I could colour and style hair in a low tox, sustainable and ethical small business and pursue my passion for healthy alternative products, bridal styling and hair extensions.”

I want to be on the forefront of cleaning up the Hair & Beauty Industry to make it healthier, safer and less damaging to people and the environment.

These are the boxes that I have made a priority to tick as an independent hairdresser

Being a part of Sustainable Salons is incredible! Recycling our salon waste into more combs & foil, donating meals and collecting ponytails to make wigs for people in need, and that’s just to name a few things this great program does!

I always struggled in larger retail salons where the staff are pushed to sell, sell, sell products and to constantly up-sell services. I just can’t talk about products that I don’t believe in or that I am not passionate about and I know all to well what it’s like living on a budget.

I found the industry very superficial and in all unhealthy, the parts I loved most were the people I met, the relationships I built, helping people, making them feel good about themselves and showing them that they are important and valued, I enjoy the honest conversations that can be had when you develop real connections with people instead of “just another hair cut”.

I love showing people that they can try new things and giving them my honest opinion on new style idea’s, I love the feeling of earning peoples trust; with such a delicate and important aspect of exterior personality, most people in this industry don’t actually realise what it is we are working with, something as important and fragile as the human self esteem, and I think it is terribly important to take that into consideration.

I am extremely passionate about organic and low toxic products and I like things to be as natural and healthy as possible not only for my clients but also my family and myself.

In 2023 I decided to cut out all harmful foods and products from my life and our home and I have never felt better, I honestly believe that the food we eat and the products we consume daily are harming us so much more than we realise.

My immune system has strengthened, my overall health and wellbeing has improved along with clearer skin and healthier hair!

I offer my clients organic/chemical free refreshments and only use natural & chemical free cleaning products.

I am super excited to see where this vision takes me and I cannot wait to build new relationships and help people improve their heath and find their own unique fuss free style right here in Boyup Brook.
