Loose Change - Original song by Brandy Newton

This song is so much fun to play. It has such a great groove and rhythm, and the vocals feel raw and edgy, but in a really relaxed way.

This is one of those songs where I actually started with the chords. I was just messing around, found the groove, and thought… this is cool. This feels like a driving song.

I’ve spent a lot of time on the road.

Travelling to events, work, up north… there was a time where I pretty much lived out there. I had my car, trailer, guitar and swag, along with my horses, cat and dog.

It was a really memorable time in my life.

The freedom was incredible.
Getting up with the sunrise and going to bed with the sunset.
Long days on the road heading towards the next opportunity.
Taking in the breathtaking scenery of our beautiful country.

But it wasn’t always easy.

There were times of living paycheck to paycheck, just trying to get through until the next job or the end of the season.
Trying to line up the next opportunity, or play a few gigs to get a little further down the road.

I was also in a toxic, on-again off-again relationship during that time.

And I stayed longer than I should have… not because I wanted to, but because I didn’t have the resources to leave.

This song holds all of that.

The freedom.
The uncertainty.
The joy of the open road.
And the quiet longing for something more stable… something that felt like home.

It reminds me of what it took to keep going.
Driving, working, playing music… doing whatever I needed to do to feed myself and my animals.

It’s that feeling of being free…
while still searching for somewhere to land.

Thanks for listening!
